Since you describe yourself as skinny fat(like myself before I started lifting), you're actually almost better off bulking until you get a good amount of muscle mass then cutting. It really sucks, especially when you get to the point where you have to eat less than 2000 calories per day, but stick with it and you'll feel a huge sense of accomplishment when you're done.

To lose weight, you pretty much have to suck it up and eat less or do a shit ton of cardio. Basically, unless you're taking supplements that are in a legal grey area or outright illegal, you aren't going to notice anything special. The downside is that the increased heart rate is marginal at best in terms of metabolism increase, and the appetite reduction from ephedrine isn't ideal if you're still trying to remain healthy. Also, in my experience, ephedrine reduces your appetite to almost zero if your tolerance is low enough. They both increase your heart rate, which in turn increases calorie expenditure during the day.
